CMAA University CM Standards of Practice Review Course
The CM Standards of Practice Review Course (CMSPRC) is designed for an advanced group of CMs preparing for his/her CCM. Content is derived from the Construction Management Core Competencies and the CMAA Body of Knowledge.
Instructional materials and instructors are provided by CMAA. Certificates and credit transcripts are provided to each course participant. While the CMSPRC is a review course, it is no guarantee of successfully completing the certification examination.
Course Content and Study Materials
The CMSPRC contains eight (8) instructional modules delivered over three (3) consecutive days in a facilitative/didactic format. The modules are:
- Professional Practice
- Project Management
- Contract Administration
- Cost Management
- Safety & Risk Management
- Quality Management
- Value Engineering
- Time Management
There are seven (7) Construction Management Core Competencies and the CMSPRC course has eight (8) instructional modules. Value Engineering is added to the course as a CM service component.
Educational Credit
The credit value for the CMSP is 24 Professional Development Hours (PDH), 2.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU), as well as AIA Learning Units. National provides a completion certificate, as well as a transcript that documents the course and educational credit, for those who complete the course.
Course Scheduling and Planning
A designated sponsor representative and CMAA staff coordinate the scheduling of course dates, selecting a sponsor’s training site and plan for course support. Training sites must provide an appropriate learning environment. Usually, a CMSP course is held for an average of 30 participants at a time. A specified number of participants are from the sponsor’s company/organization, while the remaining seats are open to the CMAA public at-large. We require at least 12 weeks lead time to schedule and prepare for your program.
The CMSPR Course Enables Sponsors To:
- Deliver a high level, turnkey, continuing professional education program to sponsors who are able to avoid the burden of developing a program on their own.
- Provide a program for learners with the appropriate CM materials within an established curriculum of study.
- Be assured that learners receive coursework that is consistent with CMAA’s Core Competencies and standards for educational quality.
National Provides:
- Instructors, who hold a current Certified Construction Management (CCM) credential or who are approved subject matter experts, on request.
- A CD containing a PowerPoint presentation for each instructional module.
- A workbook for each student that contains copies of the PowerPoint slides which serve as a post-course reference for each module.
- Course transcripts that describe continuing education credit for each student who is confirmed as completing the course.
- Certificates of Achievement for each student who is confirmed as completing the course.
A Sponsor Is Responsible For:
- Coordinating the scheduling of course dates and selecting the training site with CMAA staff.
- Providing a PowerPoint projector, laptop computer and projection screen or white board.
- Payment of course fee.
- Forwarding a class contact roster to CMAA.
Sponsor Fee and Payment
CMAA’s fees for the course are: $750 (Non-Members), $550 (Members), $350 (Owner-Members), for a minimum of 14 registrants payable in advance. Once a sponsor signs an agreement, CMAA invoices the sponsor for the total amount due. The registration fee includes the cost of the SOP Study Kit, a seven-volume compendium of the CMAA body of knowledge emphasizing CM core competencies. The kit includes the CMAA Capstone, CM Standard of Practice (soft cover), CMAA Contract Administration, CMAA Cost Management Procedures, CMAA Quality Management Guidelines, and CMAA Time Management Procedures as well as the four-document set of both A-Series and CM At-Risk Contract documents. This study kit should be completed before attending the course.
